Why Choose Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a form of treatment that works as well as standard medicine, but is still as natural as green tea, and has few if any side effects. It’s a form of stimulation therapy, which attempts to entice the body into correcting itself. Acupuncture is the oldest continuously practiced form of medicine in the world, with a history spanning 2500 years and recorded in over 30,000 books. In essence it’s the largest, longest running clinical trial in world history.
Does it hurt? What’s a treatment like?
First, you’ll sit down with the acupuncturist and discuss what you came in to have treated. Then, you’ll lie down on a massage-style table and the acupuncturist will insert hair-thin, sterile needles into specific acupuncture points in your body. Often, there will be no sensation at all, or a slight warmth and tingling. The needles usually remain in place for about 20 minutes, at the end of which you usually feel very calm and relaxed.
Is acupuncture safe?
Absolutely, when practiced correctly by trained, certified professionals using sterile needles. Recent studies showed serious side effects in less than 1.1 patients out of 10,000. |
